CIE French (0520)

Tips:

  • Have some background knowledge of French culture, cuisine, and Francophone countries (countries that speak French as their native language)

  • Remember the difference between ce (masc. singular), cet (masc. singular beginning with a vowel or h), cette (fem. singular), and ces (plural) along with tout, toute, tous, and toutes

  • Remember the difference between de, de la, des, all meaning some, and le, la, les, all meaning the or everything of the kind. For example, “je mange des poissons” means “I eat some fish”, while “je mange les poissons” means either “I eat the fish” or “I eat fish”. Another example is “j’aime les chats”, which means “I like cats”, while “j’aime des chats” means “I like some cats”

Learning methods

  • Vocabulary / Sentence structures: Make flashcards with the French word, phrase, or sentence structure on one side and its definition on the other & constantly use what you learned while writing or speaking French.

  • Fluency / Pronunciation: Practice speaking French and listening to French songs.

  • Cultural knowledge: Get to know French culture by listening to French songs, watching French movies, and looking at French art. Moreover, if you can, travelling to France can help.
