B2.1: Cell Structures

Level of Organisation

Living organisms have a hierarchical structure, where simple units combine to form bigger and more complex structures. This order allows organisms to grow, function, and respond effectively to their environment

Cell → Tissue → Organ → Organ System → Organism

  • Cell is the basic structural and functional unit of life

  • Tissues are made of a group of cells with similar functions that work together to carry out a shared function

  • Organs are made of different tissues that work together to perform a specific function

  • An organ system is a group of organs working together to perform a large function

All of these make a complete living organism (e.g, flower, dog, human, fish)
